Pantheon

>Deities of TOW<

The packs of TOW all collectively ascribe to a polytheistic religion. Some packs may worship certain deities more than others and the way each pack chooses to honor the deities may vary. However, they are all aware of the deities and share the same belief on their origin.

Caohr was the first deity in the pantheon and the one from which all the others originate. Caohr first created the realm, the rolling hills, and deep oceans, and then filled it with creatures to inhabit it; wolves being the first and most beloved of Caohr. They were made in Caohr's image and given a small piece of Caohr as a result. That piece was a kind of energy most commonly known as a soul.

With the realm growing, fueled by Caohr's energy, the deity began to feel that they would need help maintaining it. Thus, Caohr created four incarnations from themself, which corresponded to the four elements, and the first of their kin was born. With each creation they made, the need for more deities arose. Each deity was tasked with keeping balance and/or guarding over something in the realm.

Soon, a large pantheon had been created. Wolves honored each of Caohr's incarnations as they did Caohr themself but what they didn't know was that Caohr was growing weak. After splicing themself so many times, they had depleted much of the energy they once possessed. In the end, Caohr split one final time; into the deities of life and death.

With that, Caohr disappeared from the realm and their kin were left to look after their creations. Caohr is no longer around to create new life from themself and so the energy they left behind must be repurposed. Therefore, when creatures die, it is said that one's soul is then reincarnated into something else.

Note: Knowledge of the pantheon, Caohr's Code, and other practices sacred to the wolves of the Way are limited to wolves of the Way. If your character's backstory includes mentions of a former, off-map pack, this faction cannot be considered apart of the Way and have significant knowledge of/relationships to the factions of the Way or their beliefs.

>Caohr's Code<

In addition to the pantheon of deities, the packs of TOW have established a code of honor that they have all agreed to follow, regardless of the other rules and differences in their cultures.

  • Wolf must always accept Caohr, whether through open worship or inner acknowledgment. Without the creator, the other deities would not exist.

  • No pack may claim The Opened Way for themselves. The land must always remain neutral and accessible to all packs.

  • Once per year, the leaders of each pack, along with trusted advisors, must journey to The Opened Way to commune with the other leaders on peaceful terms.

  • Pups, regardless of blood or origin, must never be harmed. If a pup is in need of aid, aid must be given or the pup must be sent to a place where aid can be given.

  • Wolf shall not kill wolf, unless in times of war where conflicts cannot be avoided and loss of life is inevitable.

  • The packs shall not steal resources, prey, treasures, or other items from one another.

  • The packs shall not wrongfully trespass on each other's land nor spy on the intimate workings of one another's society.

  • The packs shall not defile objects or places that are sacred to one another.

  • In times of great trouble, the packs must warn one another of dangers that would mean destruction for each other. If the danger is great enough, the packs must unite once again to ensure survival for all.
